A Story Without End

I am a story that no one wants to read.

Sitting on this dusty shelf, will no one notice me?

I can still remember, when I was filed away.

Back behind a line of fine encyclopedias,

And that’s just how it was,

So here I stay.

I am a story without end,

All I could hope for is a friend

To come and pick me up.

In the beginning I was new,

All of my readers felt my truth,

So I’m not giving up.

No.

I can hear your footsteps.  I can hear your voices, too.

That one sounds familiar, but the other one is new.

He says, “I can still remember, when I filed it away.

Back behind this line of fine encyclopedias,

Wanted to save it for my son!”

The time has come.

I am a story without end,

All I could hope for is a friend

To come and pick me up.

In the beginning I was new,

All of my readers felt my truth,

So I’m not giving up.

Now it almost bedtime, and I’m wrapped up in your hands,

As you turn my pages now, it’s great to hear you laugh.

He says, “I can still remember, that this story has no end,

The final page was ripped out very many years ago,

But I know how it goes,

With my eyes closed.

Amaryllis

I know a girl who’s silly.

She likes to be called Lily.

She might tell you that I am dumb,

‘Cuz I know her real name’s “Lilium.”

Hey Amaryllis—

What’s your name, Amaryllis?

What’s your name?

Amaryllis, what’s your real name?

Hey Amaryllis—

What’s your name, Amaryllis?

Amaryllis, what’s your real name?

I know a girl who’s crazy.

She likes to be called Daisy.

She might tell you that I am jealous,

‘Cuz I know her real name’s “Bellis.”

CHORUS

I talked with my friend Amaryllis.

She said her name sounds so serious.

She told me it might be scary,

But I’m allowed to call her, “Mary.”

(Break)

Your real name IS Amaryllis?  Oh!

Hey, Amaryllis is her name!

Amaryllis is her name!

Amaryllis is her real name!

Hey, Amaryllis is her name!

Amaryllis!

Amaryllis is her real name!

APPLES AND PEARS

We have 1 red apple, and 1 green apple, and 1 delicious pear.

How many apples and fruits?

We have 2 apples, and 3 fresh fruits to share.

Apples and pears, apples and pears.

Oh, please won’t you share your apples and pears.

Don’t wanna see bears that can sit down in chairs.

So, please give me apples, and apples, and pears.

We have 2 red apples, and 2 green apples, and 2 delicious pears.

How many apples and fruits?

We have 4 apples, and 6 fresh fruits to share.

Apples and pears, apples and pears.

Oh, please won’t you share your apples and pears.

Don’t wanna see bears that can fly in the air.

So, please give me apples, and apples, and pears.

We have 3 red apples, and 3 green apples, and 3 delicious pears.

How many apples and fruits?

We have 6 apples, and 9 fresh fruits to share.

Apples and pears, apples and pears.

Oh, please won’t you share your apples and pears.

Don’t wanna see bears wearing pink underwears.

So, please give me apples, and apples, and pears.

Please give me apples, and apples, and pears.

Please give me apples, and apples, and apples,

And apples, and apples, and apples, and pears.

Building Bridges

Papa left for work today with a hammer in his hand.

He doesn’t mind to work hard; He always does the best he can.

He works so far away from home, all across the land.

Building bridges, building bridges,

Building bridges with his hands.

Daddy left for work today with a guitar in his hand.

He doesn’t want to be a star; he just does the best he can.

He works down at the school all day, I miss him when he’s gone,

Building bridges, building bridges,

Building bridges with his song.

Hear the rat, tat, tat of my Papa’s hammer.

Hear the boom, boom, boom of my Dad’s guitar.

Mama stayed with me today and held me in her hands.

She doesn’t mind to stay at home; she always does the best she can.

She helps me learn and helps me grow, and gives me lots of hugs.

Building bridges, building bridges,

Building bridges with her love.

Hear the rat, tat, tat of my Papa’s hammer.

Hear the boom, boom, boom of my Dad’s guitar.

Feel the warmth and strength of my Mama’s hugs.

That’s the music that fills up my heart.

Building bridges with their hands, building bridges with their song,

Building bridges with their love.

Dirt

Dirt.

I like dirt.

I want dirt.

I like dirt.

Dirt is “purty,” dirt is brown.

Dirt is dirty ‘cuz it’s on the ground.

Chorus

Dirt is better when it floods.

Just add water and you’ve got mud.

Chorus

Solo Break

Chorus:  Dirt, dr-dirt, dr-dirt, dr-dirt. . .

Dirt is great, dirt is good.

Dirt is what helps make our food.

Dirt is good, dirt is great.

I like dirt right on my plate.

Electricity

I have two eyes so I can see.

I have a nose so I can smell.

I have a mouth so I can sing,

But I’ve got something else. . .

I have a chin that I can scratch,

I have a neck like a giraffe,

I have a voice so I can laugh,

But I’ve got something else. . .

I’ve got electricity, static electricity.

Nature’s homemade recipe so I don’t need a battery.

I’ve got electricity, static electricity.

So don’t you be bugging me, or Zap!  Zap!  Zowee!

I have two arms so I can hug.

I have two hands to help my self.

I have ten fingers to pick up bugs,

But I’ve got something else.

I have my hips so I can dance.

I have two legs to wear my pants.

I have two feet so I can prance.

But I’ve got something else. . .

Estimating Jelly Beans

There is a new game, sweeping the nation.

Estimation!  Estimation!

It is a guessing game sensation.

Estimation!  Estimation!

It’s gonna take your concentration.

Estimation!  Estimation!

Let’s play a game called estimation.

Who wants to be first?

I do!

How many jelly beans in my hand?  A zillion!

A zillion’s not a number so try again.  One billion!

A billion is enough for the United States.  How about 10?

Well then. . . That’s a very good estimate!

How many jelly beans in this bag?  A zillion!

A zillion’s not a number so try again.  One million!

A million is enough for our entire town.  How about 50?

So spiffy. . . That’s a very good estimate!

How many jelly beans in this jar?  A zillion!

A zillion’s not a number so try again.  One thousand!

A thousand is enough for our entire school.  How about 100?

You’ve done it. . . That’s a very good estimate!

There is a new game, sweeping the nation.

Estimation!  Estimation!

It is a guessing game sensation.

Estimation!  Estimation!

It’s gonna take your concentration.

Estimation!  Estimation!

Let’s play a game called estimation.

Who wants to be first?

I do!

How many jelly beans in my mouth?  (Hey!)

Mmmm.  (Let me have some of those!)

No way, get your own!  (Let me have some of those jelly beans.)

(Don’t eat all the red ones!)  Hey, leave me alone.

(You know that’s my favorite color!)

EVERY OTHER NUMBER - EVENS

Every other number like 2—shh—4.

Oh, I can count every other number,

Help me to remember by counting some more.

Shh—shh—shh—I think I can!

12—shh—14—shh—16—shh—18—shh—20.

Shh—shh—shh—Tempting!

22—shh—24—shh—26—shh—28—shh—30.

32—shh—34—shh—36—shh—38—shh—40.

Shh—shh—shh—Quite sporting!

I can count every other number,

Every other number like 2—shh—4.

Oh, I can count every other number,

Help me to remember by counting some more.

42—Good for you.  We’re through!

Gotta Get Wet

Gotta get your feet, gotta get your feet. . . Gotta get your feet wet.

It’s raining, it’s pouring, there’s a raindrop on my shoe, Ew!

It’s raining, it’s boring, I’m sure I’ll get the flu.

Precipitation’s wet I’m telling you.

It’s cold out, it’s hailing, my lips are turning blue, Brrr!

The snowplows are waiting to clean up all that goo.

This situation!  What am I to do?

You can sail a ship in a gutter that’s as wide as the Erie Canal.

You can swim through a big mud puddle and still come out and smile.

You can cry, cry, cry ‘til your tears run dry and make yourself upset.

You can fly just as high as the sky if you try, but . . .

You gotta get your feet wet.

I’m inside, where it’s warm.  Your clothes are soaked right through.

You’re outside in the storm, I’m coming out with you.

Precipitation’s great I’m telling you!

CHORUS

CHORUS (Acapella) . . .

You can fly just as high as the sky if you try. . .

But you gotta get your feet (Gotta get your feet).

You can splash you can splish, you can dash if you wish.

But you gotta get your feet (Gotta get your feet).

Anything that you want, you know you can get

But you’re gonna have to get your feet wet!

Her First Nurse Works Early

Her first nurse works early,

She is never late.

Her first nurse works early,

So she’ll never make you wait.

Oh, no!

Her first nurse is great!

E-R says /er/,

I-R says /er/,

U-R says /er/,

W-O-R says /wer/,

E-A-R says /er/,

Her hair’s curly!

Yes, her first nurse works early.

Her first nurse works early,

She is never late.

Her first nurse works early,

So she’ll never make you wait.

Oh, no!

Her first nurse is great!

E-R says /er/.Her!

I-R says /er/.First!

U-R says /er/.Nurse!

W-O-R says /wer/.Works!

E-A-R says /er/.Early!

Smile so pearly!

Yes, her first nurse works early.

She serves down at the shelter,

Helps school children cross the road,

She reads aloud at circle,

Tales of princesses and toads,

She’s very, very, very kind,

And her name’s Shirley!

Yes, her first nurse works early.

Her first nurse works early!

High Frequency Words (A Poem)

Tell me, have you heard?
What are high frequency words?
Are they words that say, “Hi,” frequently?

“Hi, The!”
“Hi, And!”
“Is It in?”
“Yes, I am!”

“Hi, You!”
“Hi, Me!”
“Hi, A!”
“Hi, Be!”
“Hi, See!”

No, that is not it.
High frequency words . . .
Are the words we read, write, and say most of all.

HOW MANY FINGERS - HARD

How many fingers am I holding up?

How many ran out the door?

Six fingers am I holding up,

I am hiding four.

6 + 4, 6 + 4, 6 + 4 = 10

6 + 4, 6 + 4, 6 + 4 = 10

How many fingers am I holding up?

How many ran up a tree?

Seven fingers am I holding up,

I am hiding three.

7 + 3, 7 + 3, 7 + 3 = 10

7 + 3, 7 + 3, 7 + 3 = 10

How many fingers am I holding up?

How many went to the zoo?

Eight fingers am I holding up,

I am hiding two.

8 + 2, 8 + 2, 8 + 2 = 10

8 + 2, 8 + 2, 8 + 2 = 10

How many fingers am I holding up?

No more, that’s all.  Enough.

I HAVE A PROBLEM

I have a problem.

I have a problem.

I’m going to solve it.  I will resolve it.

No problem, problem.

Next week’s my birthday.

We’re having a party, yeah!

Eight guests are coming,

And they’ll be hungry, hungry.

We’re having pizzas.

Mmm, pepperoni!

How many should I order, for my guests,

So there’ll be plenty, plenty?

I have a problem.

He has a problem.

I have a problem.

He has a problem.

I’m going to solve it.  I will resolve it.

No problem, problem.

Get a piece of paper.

Let’s make a model.

Decorate our pizza,

With lots of toppings.

Cut out the slices,

Some for each person.

Do we have enough now, for our guests,

So there’ll be plenty, plenty?

We had a problem.

We had a problem, a big, big problem.

We had a problem.

We had a big, old problem.

And then we solved it.  Yeah, we resolved it.

No problem, problem.

I Will Be There

I see you for the first time,

I’ve seen that face before,

I’m looking at my eyes in yours,

I whisper your name,

You look as though you’ve heard it somewhere,

You listen as I say,

I will be there.

Yesterday fades away,

Where does it go?

It’s replaced ‘cause today was once tomorrow.

And someday when you’re grown,

You’ll spread your wings and fly somewher,

If you need me, just call,

I will be there.

And someday when I’m gone,

I want you to know I will always love you,

Just listen to your heart,

I will be there.

Going!  Oo!  Going!  Oo!  Going on a leaf hunt.

Happy hunting, Obie.

Happy hunting, Moose.

Nature’s Lullaby

Little, little soul,

With tired eyes,

Little, little child,

Whispers sleepy sighs.

The sun is tucked

Under a blanket of clouds.

The trees stand still,

Asleep on their feet.

The crickets snore (Hush, hush)

Within a pillow of fog.

The fish dream beneath the sea.

Little, little soul,

With tired eyes,

Little, little child,

Whispers sleepy sighs.

Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time, there was a prince.

Who was turned into a frog by a wicked witch.

He hopped into the meadow, and no one’s seen him since.

Not so far away, there was a princess.

She had something to say, but no one listened.

She took a walk that day, once upon a time.

Gotta learn to be yourself,

Never mind about anybody else.

It’s then that you can start,

To listen to your heart.

On her walk that day, the princess saw a frog.

He didn’t hop away, he listened to her talk.

So she knelt down and kissed him,

And it turned him into a prince again.

They lived happily ever after. . .

Once upon a time,

Once upon a time.

Pickle In My Jar

I looked inside my fridgerator, and what did I see?

An empty jar of pickle juice was staring back at me.

My sister made a sandwich yesterday.

She must have had a pickle, but didn’t throw the jar away.

I looked inside my cupboard later, and what did I see?

Lots of jars of this and that, but no pickles for me.

I looked behind the cereal to find.

A single can of tuna that my sister left behind.

All that I need is a pickle in my jar.

A pickle in my soul, a pickle in my heart.

All that I need is a pickle in my jar.

That’s all I need right now.

I went to the supermarket, and what did I see?

Rows and rows of pickle jars were staring back at me.

I picked out the very biggest jar.

When my mom wasn’t looking, I snuck it in our grocery cart.

Saturday

Let’s yell hooray for Saturday.

Hooray for Saturday!

Let’s yell hooray for Saturday.

Hooray for Saturday!

Monday is a dumb day.

Back to work, make it snappy.

Tuesday is a snooze day.

By then I really need a nap.

Wednesday is spelled wrong.

It has way too many letters.

Thursday is so long.

And I don’t see it getting any shorter.

Chorus

Friday is my day.

To get all ready for the weekend.

Sunday is a fun day.

But it means we have to do it all again.

Where Did My Day Go?

Where did my day go?

Where did my day go?.

Still want to play, oh!

Where did my day go?

6:00 A.M. Wake up time.

Have your breakfast and exercise.

8:00 A.M. Time for school.

Do your best that’s the golden rule.

10:00 A.M. Let’s take a break.

Go grab a basketball and play.

12:00 o’clock noon.  It’s time for lunch.

Want a banana, you can have a bunch.

Where did my day go?

Where did my day go?.

Still want to play, oh!

Where did my day go?

2:00 P.M. Let’s have a snack.

Uh oh, here comes a nap attack.

4:00 P.M.  Mom and Dad are home.

Time to share and play some more.

6:00 P.M. It’s dinner time.

That spaghetti sure looks fine.

8:00 P.M.  Let’s have a bath.

Book and off to bed at last.

Where did my day go?

Where did my day go?.

Still want to play, oh!

Where did my day go?

Where did my day go?

Where did my day go?.

Wanna stay awake, oh!

Where did my day go?

Where did my day go?
