MASTER MULTIPLICATION CD LYRICS
Youngsters love to multiply by 10. It sounds so impressive, yet it’s so easy. If you don’t have recorders you can listen to the intereludes or clap the rhythm with your hands. When the song is over, give yourself a big round of applause.
Students take pride in learning their 9’s. That’s big time. When I was in elementary school I remember knowing that 9 X 9 = 81. That seemed such an accomplishment that whenever I got a new calculator I would test it with 9 X 9. If the calculator displayed 81, then I knew for sure it was a good calculator. Funny the things we do as kids!
The musical interludes in this Multiplication Song By 8’s give the students some think time. With a shuffle feel and a bright tone, this is a happy little blues arrangement.
This song has a story behind it. It's the first multiplication song I wrote and inspired me to do this entire CD. A good 4th grade teacher friend of mine said that kids typically need a multiplication refresher after summer. So, I created a multiplication track with an optional recorder part that we could rehearse during classroom music. We performed this multiplication song at our classroom concert.
Okay, now it’s starting to get tricky. One strategy I like to use with educational music sounds too good to be true. You simply have the kids LISTEN to the song once or twice a day for several days. Yep. They’ll take it from there.
You can hear the tempo pickup slightly in this multiplication song. That's because 5 seems to be one of the easier numbers for kids to multiply. The faster tempo here is intended to add a little pizzazz.
Every sound you hear in this song is played in groups of four. I love that! Even the song flute or recorder patterns are arranged in fours. You can definitely use that as a teacher and see the kids’ eyes light up when they hear it for themselves. This is one of my favorite musical arrangements from the CD. It gets the toes tapping.
Listen closely to the rhythm of this song. . . you will hear patterns of two everywhere. From the recorder melody to the bass drum, everything is in groups of two's. Yes, I did that intentionally to give this multiplication song a unique flavor. It's just one of the things I like to do as a composer of educational songs to add layers of interest. Hope you like it, like it. I do, I do!
Multiplying by 3’s with beginners is a lot of fun. It’s just easy enough that they can get the hang of it initially. However, as the numbers get higher you can literally see the kids thinking. That’s fun. With a little practice, you’ll be able to get through the entire song.
Let’s face it, multiplying by 1’s is easy. That makes it the perfect place to start with youngsters. 1st graders love this multiplication song because they can be successful right away. The background music for this track was recorded with Fruity Loops, acoustic guitar, recorder, and a real wooden xylophone. Recording the xylophone parts was fun!
